UPLIFT
is a 4-year COPD landmark trial which compared tiotropium (SPIRIVA
) versus placebo (hereafter referred to "control"), allowing all patients throughout the trial to use all prescribed respiratory medications other than inhaled anticholinergics.
The primary objective of UPLIFT
was to determine whether tiotropium reduces the rate of lung function decline (as measured by FEV
) over
4 years in COPD patients. Other important outcome measures – including health-related quality of life, exacerbations of COPD and mortality - will also be assessed.
